Rugged and Baldy meet Anthony Joshua on his belt tour

SOUTHEND’S most loved urban DJ duo – ‘DJs Rugged & Baldy’ joined Anthony Joshua as part of his #RoadToUndisputed ‘belt tour’.

JD Sports collaborated with AJ inviting fans to pop up shops across the country to have their picture taken with him and his prestigious IBF, WBA (super), and IBO belts. There was also a punch bag machine where fans were able to compete for an exclusive chance to win tickets to the highly anticipated fight against Joseph Parker in Cardiff, which of course Joshua won.

Around one hundred specially invited guests were giving a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal to the boxing champ at the meet-and-greet event in JD Sport’s flagship store on Oxford Street.

Thousands flocked down to Oxford Circus to catch a glimpse of Anthony Joshua which unsurprisingly caused a roadblock for over an hour.

Official JD Sports and RWD magazine DJs Rugged and Baldy have been a duo since 2007. They toured with AJ’s original belts for a week stopping at various destinations, starting in Sheffield on Thursday March 22. JD’s packed out London event on Friday March 29, saw Baldy hosting and Rugged on the decks. Grime artist Meridian Dan and comedian Stevo The Madman were also a part of the entertainment and participated in a rap battle against one another.

The unified heavyweight champion of the world and nation’s teasure interacted with fans and was even asked by Stevo to join in the rap battle between him and Meridian Dan. Like the good sport AJ is, he got stuck in and dropped some bars!

Anthony Joshua told the Sky Sports: “It’s a busy street anyway but the event they put on brought people in.

“People came from all over England and some parts of Europe as well. It was a great turnout.

You’re in lockdown for four months’ routines so you need a bit of an outburst and connect with the world so what better way of doing it than with the people.”

DJ Baldy said: “Being asked to go on the AJ x JD Belt Tour of the UK was a great honour, we had a lot of fun and met people all over the country.

“AJ lived up to everything that I expected him to be – he was humble, a nice guy, funny and he had time for everyone. He spoke to everyone that came up to meet him and have pictures with him which was brilliant.

“We’re now giving the people of the UK another chance to get up close and personal with Anthony Joshua with a second belt tour, but this time with his fourth belt, so watch this space.”

Currently Deontay Wilder holds the fifth and final belt Joshua needs be crowned the undisputed champion of the world. A fight between the two is in the pipeline.
